Locked away for decades as part of the USSR and enduring variously bumpy births as independent nations, the five ‘Stans’ are emerging as exciting and intriguing destinations, whether you are looking for ecotourism, active adventure or a historical immersion, or a mix!

Each country offers a very different experience but we focus only on the smallest of the Central Asian nations, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Â The area of each is made up of over 90% mountains, a fantastic arena for lovers of hiking, riding and 4x4 adventures.

As well as the journey at the heart of our trips, there is time to learn about the unique flora and fauna, the colourful pastoralist culture, to understand the region's remarkable history and to grapple with the complicated regional geopolitics!
