An adventure for intermediate riders who love to ride along spectacular mountain trails. We take sturdy mules, bred and trained for taking their riders comfortably and safely to reach parts of Colombia that few outsiders have seen. We work with a highly experienced local riding operator that has researched and reccied the routes in detail and can tweak them as required. They use high quality tack, can match their mules to their riders and speak fluent English to keep us entertained along the trail!
The 4 day ride is located in the foothills of the Andes above the famous coffee region in western Colombia. The ride passes through the plantations, up into the montane forests towards the snowy peaks above. There will be opportunities to learn about local cafe-culture and sample the local cuisine, as well as travel in the legendary WIlly's jeeps used in the area!
The rest of the trip is spent enjoying the comforts of a historic coffee ranch house, followed by a stay in the gorgeous colonial era capital of Cartagena.
Day 1 - 2
Arrive and explore Bogotá
Arrive in Bogotá and settle into the dynamic capital, exploring the historic old town with a local guide and visiting some of Lachie's favourite hideaways and restaurants!
Day 3 - 7
To the coffee zone and on mules into the mountains
A flight from Bogota to the city of Armenia, from where we take jeeps up into the hills to meet our guide and the mules. We set off early the next day, through the coffee plantations and montane forests, admiring orchids, birds and butterflies, riding for four days in all. We return to the start point and drive to a historic coffee ranch house.
Day 8 - 10
R&R on a coffee estate
Two nights of R&R, spending days by the pool, resting any aching parts, walking around the coffee estate; eating and drinking the best coffee in the world!
Day 10 - 12
The jewel of the Caribbean
A flight to Cartagena, where we stay for two nights in a gorgeous, restored old house in the historic walled city. A day exploring Cartagena, then a plane to Bogota and onto your final destination
