A 4X4 TRAVERSE OF THE ANDES
This itinerary is just an example to serve as inspiration, every trip can be adapted to suit your group, your interests and how far off the beaten track you want to go.
A trip for those who love an off-road adventure through magnificent mountain scenery. We use fully-equipped 4x4 Isuzu Trooper campers and follow safe but exciting routes through the mountains, across the eastern plains and back into the mountains again. We might wild camp, or stay in a lodge if we need a bit of R&R after a long drive. We mostly cook for ourselves, sampling local produce. Travellers can drive themselves or contract a driver.
The final stage of the trip is spent enjoying a stay in the gorgeous colonial era capital of Cartagena.

Day 1 - 2
Arrive and explore Bogotá
Arrive in Bogotá and settle into the dynamic capital. A day exploring the historic part of Bogota with a local guide, wandering the backstreets of the old town and visiting some of Lachie's favourite hideaways and restaurants!
Day 3 - 6
Driving in 4x4 campers onto the Colombian eastern plains
A short drive takes us to collect the 4x4 Troopers, converted into fully equipped campers. We drive up into the Andes and down onto the eastern plains, where capybara, caiman and brilliant birdlife can be seen in their natural habitat. We camp on a ranch where we can walk or ride to admire the wildlife.
Day 7 - 10
Up into the mountains again
We drive from the plains up a spectacular mountain road into the Andes to the town of El Cocuy, where we hike up into the nearby national park to admire the magnificent snowcapped peaks and glaciers. From El Cocuy we drive down via the gorgeous scenery of the Chichamocha Canyon to the historic town of Barichara, known as the most beautiful town in all Colombia. A day spent enjoying the sights in and around the town.
Day 11 - 12
The jewel of the Caribbean
We drive to the nearby airport, leave the vehicles to be collected and fly to Cartagena, where we stay in a lovely old colonial era townhouse in the walled city. Enjoy Cartagena and in the evening fly back to Bogota and onwards to your next destination
