A 4X4 DRIVE ALONG THE PAMIR HIGHWAY
This itinerary is just an example to serve as inspiration, every trip can be adapted to suit your group, your interests and how far off the beaten track you want to go.
The Pamir Highway is a legendary 10 day route that runs between Dushanbe, the capital of of Tajikistan and Osh in Kyrgyzstan. Your group will travel for 10 days in 4x4 jeeps, driven by local drivers on the gravel road that tracks the River Amu Darya (aka Oxus) along the Afghan border before turning north and running parallel to the Chinese border. You drive through some of the wildest and most remote scenery on earth, passing 7500m peaks and staying in guesthouses in isolated mountain villages.
At the end of the trip, you enjoy a couple of nights in a comfortable yurt: time for some well-earned rest after the great adventure!
Day 1 - 2
Arrival in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Arrive in the capital of Dushanbe and settle in, exploring the historical sights and meeting our local guide to be briefed on the expedition.
Day 3 - 12
Driving along the Pamir Highway to Osh
With our driver/guides, we set off from Dushanbe, following the Amu Darya River up into the Pamirs and ending in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. We stay in local guesthouses, eating their food and learning about their culture. There are opportunities along the way for wonderful day hikes and/or horse rides to break up the driving.
Day 13 - 14
Relaxing in a yurt by a mountain lake
Two nights in a lovely yurt, set beside a mountain lake, with views out to the peaks. Reading, swimming and enjoying local cuisine.
Day 14
Back to Bishkek and home
A drive through the hills and down to Bishkek, where we enjoy some time in the famous Osh handicraft bazaar, sample the finest local food and set sail for home.
