Can I shape my own trip with Lachie for him to lead?
Of course, within reason! There are certain places that Lachie will not take people (eg. for security reasons) and certain profiles of trip he would prefer not to do, but he's open to discussion! Lachie also knows Kenya, Zimbabwe, the Caucasus and other South American countries very well, so can guide across many other places too.

How long are the journeys and can that be modified?
They tend to last between 10 and 15 days, but this is very flexible.

Is there flexibility in when the trips take place?
Lachie tries to do his trips to both destinations when the weather conditions tend to be best. Â But everything is possible!

I’m worried about whether I’m fit enough for the trips. Can we modify the fitness level and riding experience required?
Lachie likes an active adventure and has shaped his trips around a journey, be it on foot, mule or 4x4.  If you are up for that, we can create a trip according to what you can manage, even if that might be some shorter walks.  If you’re looking for a deckchair holiday, perhaps you need to continue your research!

How does the costing of the trips work?
Lachie will work with you to shape your trip and then work out with the ground handler in the relevant country what their charges will be. This will include domestic flights, all lodging on B&B basis and some activities.  On top of that will be Lachie’s fee. Â

Some groups may wish to have an all-in costing that covers all meals and maybe even drink! Â Others will prefer to be flexible and pay for meals and activities as they go.
Travellers buy their own international flights.

How far in advance do I need to book?
As early as you can: since Lachie only does a few trips each year, he gets booked up quite quickly!

Do I have to form my own group to travel with Lachie?
Lachie does not operate like a standard tour company by booking individuals/couples onto his trips. Such small numbers can travel with him but only in dedicated, tailor made trips. Lachie does this deliberately because he wants his groups to be made up of people who know each other and want to travel together.

Is Lachie able to offer indemnity coverage for the companies with which he works?
The ground handler companies with which lachie works in Colombia and Central Asia have their own indemnity coverage. Â All of Lachie's travellers are expected to secure their own travel and health insurance policies.

Is it safe to travel to Colombia and Central Asia?
Lachie has spent a career understanding and gauging risk in the many variously risky countries in which he has lived and worked. Â

Colombia suffers from the bad publicity provided by series like Narcos. Like any country, there are safer and less safe parts to Colombia. The key is to travel with someone who knows where the lines lie in terms of seeking out places that are off the beaten track, but not off limits. Lachie spent 3 years travelling all over Colombia and has a network of people on the ground who keep him updated on the security situation.Â

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are both very safe countries in which to travel.
